🌞 Methods of Approach and the Triple Way

Series: Access to the Masters via Meditation
By Djwal Khul (The Tibetan) — 1920 dictation

“The methods of approach are broadly three[i]—sanctified service, love demonstrating through wisdom, and intellectual application. These lead to certain results: inner contact, illumination, alignment, service ability, and steadfast joy.”
Djwal Khul, Letters on Occult Meditation

💠 The Science of Return

Every soul upon the Path yearns, sooner or later, for conscious contact with the Master.
Behind this yearning lies the remembrance of a divine relationship that has never truly been broken—only veiled by personality and illusion. The Master is not a distant being, but the reflection of our own perfected Self, the radiant pattern toward which the soul eternally aspires.

Djwal Khul, the great Tibetan teacher, unveils here the science of return: the process by which the lower self becomes magnetically attuned to the higher centers of Hierarchical life. He shows that this approach is mystical, but it’s also an exact science of vibration.

The disciple must learn to blend the threefold energies of Will, Love, and Mind—the very aspects of the Divine Logos. Only through this synthesis can one draw near to the Master’s vibration and become a conscious worker within the Great Brotherhood of Light.

The Triple Way of Approach is not a ladder but a triangle of living energy, through which the soul’s current ascends and descends without obstruction. Each aspect perfects and sustains the others:

  • Will gives direction.
  • Love gives cohesion.
  • Mind gives clarity.

When the disciple unites these three, the Master’s presence is no longer sought outside—it dawns within as a steady radiance.

💠 1️ Sanctified Service – The Way of Will

Service is the keynote of evolution. Every form in the universe serves the next higher form, and thus life ascends. The sun serves its planets; the soul serves humanity; the disciple serves the Plan.

To sanctify service means to remove self-interest from action. The will becomes sacred when it no longer strives for personal fulfillment but flows wholly toward divine purpose. The Tibetan teaches that the disciple must consecrate his every act—not through austerity, but through joyful obedience to the rhythm of the Plan.

When the motive of service is purified, the energy of divine Will begins to stream through the disciple’s life as living fire. Action then becomes effortless, radiant, charged with spiritual electricity.

This is the First Ray in manifestation—the way of the pioneer, the leader, the one who dares to embody the Purpose. Yet its true strength is not domination but direction: a quiet steadfastness that aligns the outer life to the will of the soul.

“When the will of the personality and the will of the soul are at-one, then the Plan can find expression through that life.”
Djwal Khul

The disciple thus becomes a living instrument of divine intent—a transmitter of power who uplifts others simply by presence.

🕊️ 2️ Love Demonstrating Through Wisdom – The Way of the Heart

The second method of approach is the Way of Love–Wisdom, the path of the World Teacher and of all who heal through understanding.

Here the heart becomes the true organ of perception. Love that is not guided by wisdom can blind; wisdom that is not filled with love can wound. But united, they form the magnetic bridge that spans the gulf between Master and pupil.

Through the cultivation of compassionate intelligence, the disciple begins to sense the heart of the Hierarchy, that great center of universal Love which sustains every Master’s work. Within that current, sentiment dissolves into serenity; emotion refines into energy; affection matures into illumination.

Love–Wisdom is the path of all who would heal divisions—between races, nations, and individuals. The disciple who walks this way no longer serves through words alone, but through presence. His very aura becomes a radiance of peace.

“When the heart is aflame with love and the mind illumined with wisdom, then shall the disciple stand in the heart of the Master and radiate that peace which passeth understanding.”
Letters on Occult Meditation

This is the Second Ray, the middle note of the Divine Chord, balancing the intensity of Will and the precision of Mind. It is the way of the Christ in every heart.

🪶 3️ Intellectual Application – The Way of the Illumined Mind

The third approach is through Intellectual Application, the disciplined use of the illumined mind.

Many equate spirituality with emotion or faith, but the Tibetan clarifies that clear reason is a divine faculty. The mind, when purified of prejudice and personal bias, becomes the mirror of truth.

Through meditation and study, the disciple trains the mind to become the bridge between soul and personality—the antahkarana, the rainbow bridge of light. Each clear, loving thought contributes a filament to this bridge, until the personality is aligned with the soul’s vibration.

This is the Third Ray in action: intelligent activity, scientific precision, mental clarity. It is not cold intellect but luminous reason—the faculty that reveals the pattern behind phenomena and allows the Plan to be known.

“Through the mind rightly controlled and illuminated, the soul may work out its purpose in the world of form.”
Djwal Khul

When the disciple’s thought becomes transparent, the light of the soul streams through the mental field and illumines every circumstance of life. Such a one becomes a true light-bringer, capable of revealing divine ideas in practical form.

🌈 The Five Fruits of the Triple Way

When Will, Love, and Mind act as one current, five results naturally flower in the disciple’s consciousness:

  1. Inner Contact – The awareness of the Master’s presence as an inner certainty, not an external miracle.
  2. Illumination – The descent of intuition, revealing purpose and pattern in all things.
  3. Alignment – The straightening of the channel between higher and lower self, producing unbroken flow.
  4. Service Ability – The capacity to act efficiently under inspiration, to translate love into intelligent action.
  5. Steadfast Joy – The serenity that arises when all energies are harmonized in the soul’s rhythm.

These are not rewards but inevitable effects. Where synthesis is achieved, joy appears as fragrance appears from a flower.

🌺 The Esoteric Principle – Triplicity in Synthesis

All evolution proceeds from the One, through the Three, back to the One.
The disciple’s path recapitulates this cosmic law. He begins as a fragment, learns to balance the triad of forces within, and returns as a conscious embodiment of the One Life.

This is the very mystery of the Master’s method: the integration of Will, Love, and Mind into a single stream of spiritual potency. When this is accomplished, the disciple himself becomes a radiant center within the Ashram, capable of transmitting the energy of the Hierarchy into the world of men.

“When the three are one, the disciple knows the Master as himself, and himself as the Master.”
Letters on Occult Meditation

This is the consummation of meditation: the realization of unity through triplicity, of synthesis through diversity. It is the Science of the Return, the ascent of the Son to the Father, the at-one-ment of all the separated selves within the Heart of the One Life.

[i] Methods of approach and effects obtained.

The methods of approach are broadly three and we might indicate five results that will eventuate from the employment of these methods.  The three methods are:—

  1. Sanctified service.
  2. Love demonstrating through wisdom.
  3. Intellectual application.

They are all three but diverse methods of expressing one and the same thing,—active one-pointedness that expresses itself in service for the race through love and wisdom.  But some individuals express this in one way and some in another; some carry the outer appearance of intellectuality and others of love, yet before the attainment is possible intellectuality must be based on love, whilst love without mental development and that discrimination that mind affords is apt to be unbalanced and unwise.  Both love and mind must be expressed in terms of service before the full flower of either is attained.  Let us consider each of these methods separately and indicate the meditation to be followed thereon:—…

🕊️ The Triple Way of Approach

A Practice based on Letter VIII from the dictation “Letters on Occult Meditation” by Djwal Khul, 1920

💠 Introduction – Entering the Sacred Current

Sit quietly, and remember: today you are not merely preparing to meditate, but to approach the Master. This is not an outer journey. The Master lives within the soul’s own vibration, waiting behind the veil of thought and feeling.

You are entering the Temple of the Three Fires — Will, Love, and Mind. These are the three gates of approach. Each corresponds to a ray of divine life and a chamber within your own causal body. As you open these gates, you align with the great current of Hierarchical life — that steady, rhythmic outflow of divine energy which unites all true disciples with the Ashrams of the Masters.

Let your intention be pure: not to receive favors, visions, or powers, but to become a transparent instrument through which the Light may bless the world.

Breathe deeply three times. With each breath, imagine drawing the living energies of the Three Fires into your being:

  • Blue Fire of Will – strength, purpose, direction.
  • Pink Fire of Love – warmth, compassion, understanding.
  • Golden Fire of Mind – clarity, illumination, order.

You are about to weave them into one flame within the heart.

💠 1️ The First Gate – Sanctified Service (The Way of Will)

Visualize before you a vast blue flame, calm yet infinitely powerful. It radiates from the crown of Sanat Kumara Himself — the Flame of Divine Purpose.

Silently affirm:

“I dedicate my strength to the Will that liberates.
Through service, I align with the Purpose of God.”

Now see this blue fire descend from the higher worlds into your crown. Feel it anchoring in your solar plexus, transforming every personal desire into sacred intention.

Let each heartbeat whisper: Not my will, but Thine be done.

Then, imagine your hands and feet glowing with pale blue light — instruments of sacred action. Feel a still power flowing through your limbs, as if the Master Himself were guiding every gesture.

Pause here in silent offering.
Send this power forth to bless all lives you touch today. Let no action be wasted, no thought unguarded. Every movement is now a service to the Plan.

As you breathe, feel your aura strengthen — a sphere of steady blue radiance around you. In its center shines the flame of Divine Will, unwavering and serene.

🕊️ 2️ The Second Gate – Love Demonstrating Through Wisdom (The Way of the Heart)

Now turn your awareness to the golden flame within your chest. It pulses gently, expanding with every breath.

Say inwardly:

“I am the flame of compassionate understanding.
Through love I reveal the wisdom that heals.”

Envision the Master of Love–Wisdom, the Christ or Lord Maitreya, standing before you. His heart radiates a golden sun whose rays enter your own heart until the two flames merge as one.

Sense how this golden current begins to circulate between your heart and the hearts of all beings. Every pulse sends peace. Every exhalation carries forgiveness.

Imagine waves of soft golden light moving outward, blessing your home, your city, your nation, the entire Earth.
In this field of radiant love, no fear can exist, no division can stand.

You are now participating in the heart of the Hierarchy — that living center of peace which sustains every disciple and Master alike.

Hold that awareness until your entire being vibrates with compassion.
Let understanding arise — not as thought, but as a feeling of unity.

Whisper inwardly:
“In all hearts, I behold one Flame.
Through that Flame, I serve the One Life.”

🪶 3️ The Third Gate – The Way of Illumined Mind

Now lift your awareness upward to the forehead, the cave of illumination.
See there a radiant white flame — pure, cool, and steady.

Affirm silently:

“Let pure reason and illumined mind
make straight the way of the Lord.”

Sense this flame as the Light of Divine Intelligence, the clear perception of Truth that dissolves illusion.
As it brightens, imagine the light forming a bridge of silver fire extending upward — the antahkarana, your bridge of consciousness between the soul and the personality.

Follow it upward in meditation until you feel a point of great brilliance above the head — the Soul Star.
From this center, a downpour of white light begins to flow into your mind, filling it with order, purpose, and quiet lucidity.

Observe your thoughts as if they were clouds moving across a bright sky. Let each one pass until the sky of mind is clear.
When the light becomes steady, say gently within:
“I think as the Soul thinks.
I see as the Master sees.”

Remain here in silent contemplation, allowing the pure light to reveal what must be done, learned, or released.
The illumined mind becomes a channel for divine ideas to flow into form.

🌈 The Union of the Three Fires

Now see the blue flame of Will, the pink flame of Love, and the golden flame of Mind converging within your heart.

They spiral together, forming a single radiant flame of violet-white brilliance — the synthesis of the three aspects of divinity.

This is the Flame of the Master’s Presence within you — the Triple Flame of the Logos.
Feel it pulsing with calm, rhythmic light, perfectly balanced, perfectly whole.

Say within:

“O Lord of the Threefold Flame,
Fuse my will with Thine,
My love with Thine,
My mind with Thine.
Through this union, may I serve the Plan divine.”

Let this flame expand until it fills your aura, then radiates outward in concentric circles, touching all kingdoms of nature.
Visualize your city, your nation, and the Earth itself surrounded by this triune light — blue for strength, pink for love, gold for clarity.

Hold the world in your heart.
Feel the Masters standing around the planet as guardians of light, linking their auras to yours. You are part of Their current, Their rhythm, Their joy.

Remain in stillness.
No separation exists now between you and Them.
You are in the Master’s vibration — the triple rhythm of Will, Love, and Mind.

🌸 Sealing the Meditation

When you are ready to close, breathe deeply three times.
With each breath, imagine drawing the three rays back into your heart, sealing them in perfect equilibrium.

Say slowly:

“The Will to serve,
The Love to understand,
The Mind to illumine—
These three I hold in balance within the heart of peace.”

Touch your heart gently and bless the day to come.
Whatever you do, wherever you go, let this triple flame guide your words, your thoughts, your deeds.

The Master’s presence will walk with you—as the silent flame within that never fades.

Closing Reflection

You have now enacted the ancient rite of return.
Each time you perform this practice, the bridge grows stronger; the flame grows brighter; the sense of separation diminishes.
Thus do you approach the Master—not in time, but in vibration—until one day, you awaken to find that you and the Master are one light, shining through different forms.

Remain serene, steadfast, and joyful.
For this is the way of all who serve the Light.

🌠 Focus on Astrology

October 31 – November 1 2025

Theme : The Radiant Group — Service as the Light of the Master

Planetary Keynote : Waxing Moon moving from late Pisces into Aquarius, following the First-Quarter phase (Oct 29 @ 02:36 UT).

The Moon’s Aquarian phase carries forward the tension of the quarter into the rhythm of collective service.
Ray Alignment : Seventh Ray of Ceremonial Order + Second Ray of Love–Wisdom = Service through organized light.

Focus of Letter VIII :

“He develops the capacity of the pupil to work in group formation[i]… The means of development are ever the same: occult meditation and service; the inner life of concentration and the outer life of practice.” [ii]

💎 Esoteric Context

The First-Quarter Moon represents the moment when inner realization must seek outward expression.
Its passage into Aquarius turns that urge into group radiation—the hallmark of discipleship in the Aquarian Age.

By now, this week we have:

  1. Purified will in love (Mars–Jupiter–Chiron).
  2. Stabilized emotion through the Grand Water Trine.
  3. Built the bridge of mind (Mercury → Sagittarius).
  4. Rested in the Master’s Heart.

Now we must become a distributor of that light.
Aquarius governs circulation: what the soul receives must flow.
The Moon’s tension presses the disciple to act—to embody the Master’s consciousness in practical service.

🕯️ Meditation — The Radiant Network of Light

  1. Sit in silence. Sense the triangle of contact (Will–Love–Wisdom) above the head glowing softly.
  2. Visualize lines of light streaming from your heart to other hearts around the world until a vast network of sapphire-white fire encircles the planet.
  3. At its center, see a golden sun — the Master’s Heart — feeding every line with living light.
  4. Sound three times: OM OM OM.
With each OM, feel light pouring through you into the world network.
  5. Affirm:

“I am a center of light within the greater Light.
I serve the Plan of Love and Power.
May the radiance I receive bless the world.”

  1. Hold the image until peace and purpose blend into one sustained tone.

🌹 Reflection

Djwal Khul’s final instruction—“occult meditation and service”—finds its mirror in the Aquarian Moon.
This lunar rhythm stimulates outer organization of inner light:

  • Meditation = inner life of concentration.
  • Service = outer life of practice.
Together they complete the five-fold initiation of Letter VIII.

Under this sky, the disciple ceases to seek contact with the Master as an event and realizes it as a state of being.
The Master works through him as through a cell in the great body of Light.

📓 Journaling Prompt

How can I translate the peace I feel in meditation into acts of service?
In what simple ways can I be a lamp within the group of lamps?

🕊️ Benediction

May the Light of the Masters shine through every heart of service.
May Love unify all groups into one vibration of Peace.
May the Will of the One Life guide our hands until the Earth itself becomes a Temple of the Masters’ Presence.
OM SHANTI OM.

Notes

[i] He develops the capacity of the pupil to work in group formation.  He studies his action and interaction on his own affiliated group.  He works with the pupil’s causal body and its expansion and development, and teaches the pupil to understand the law of his own being and through that understanding brings him to a comprehension of the macrocosm.

[ii] All this, coupled with what has been earlier imparted, will give you some idea of the rights and powers acquired on the Probationary Path and on the Path of Initiation.  The means of development are ever the same:—occult meditation and service; the inner life of concentration and the outer life of practice; the inner ability to contact the higher, and the outer ability to express that faculty in terms of holy living; the inner irradiation from the Spirit, and the outer shining before men.
